I'm curious, do you have this model set up as a blend shape where the drills come out of the drill port?

Afraid I'm not familiar with that term. Can you elaborate?

Blend shapes are when you make several different states of a model and combine them together for animation. For example, to make facial expressions for characters, you make several different versions of the head (angry, sad, happy, normal) and combine them under the Blend Shape settings. What happens is that several sliders will appear and you can then customize facial expressions.

I was thinking what you had done with your model is made a blend shape with two versions of it: one with the drills hidden inside the model, and one without. That way you could have the drills appear or be hidden with just the same model.

Does this explanation make sense at all? >>;

I remember that for characters, but I didn't know about using it in cases like this. I just have the 4 standard drills, and separate layer with all the spiny drills hidden.
